For us, the history of Uzbekistan begins with the creation of our independent film studio Illusion Pictures in 2003. Kayumov Shukhrat, a third-generation cameraman, and his father, were encouraged by the financial support provided by the state and a few private commercial projects to make Illusion Pictures a game changer.
Bringing together the finest professionals in the film industry, the company paved the way for artistic international collaborations on numerous projects. The extensive work portfolio has set the systems in place for the swift and seamless launch of projects.
The company effectively manages the entire gamut of operations – from recce, visa support and financial planning to the initial casting, selection of hotels and other essential logistics.
The creative and technical teams specialize in the provision of services for the production of films, television programmes, web series as well as advertising and production of corporate content.
The services of independent and full-budget projects focus on realizing creative potential while staying well within budget. There are corporate discounts for companies who have partnered with us for specific projects. By creating a joint project with the Republic of Uzbekistan, rebates and additional funds are made accessible that can further facilitate the successful execution of a project.
Kayumov Shukhrat
Producer / Cinematographer
He was all of 10 when he landed the lead role in a sci-fi movie that went on to win accolades at the Children’s and Youth Film Festival, as part of the Japan Film Festival. Born into a family of cinematographers, Shukhrat had perhaps inherited the creative genes!
He started his professional career in 1984 at the tender age of six, playing minor roles in numerous films. It didn’t take the ardent young boy long to get recognition from the film industry and adoration from the public. Shukhrat went on to participate in the filming of several state projects in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan as an actor and second cameraman.
In 2003, he founded Illusion Pictures in association with experienced producers and veteran directors belonging to his father Kayumov Timur crew. The company has produced more than 100 art and documentary projects officially commissioned by the State.
In 2010, when Timur decided to retire, Shukhrat took over the reins of the company. Since 2017, he has successfully completed four full-length international projects, including two in collaboration with the Republic of Uzbekistan, India and Japan.
Karimov Murod
Line Producer
Born in 1976, Karimov Murod graduated from the Institute of Arts in Uzbekistan as a Director of Photography in 1998. During his academic years, he worked diligently as an assistant operator to gain valuable experience in his chosen profession.
From 1994 to 2003, he shot a slew of films, adding over 20 documentary projects to his credit. In 1999, he got the rare and wonderful opportunity to work on the first-ever feature film that was made in Uzbekistan since its independence.
Karimov went on to create a series of documentaries about the first President of Uzbekistan, which won him the prestigious Glory Prize in 2002. He also made short films and music videos in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, as well as shot for around 30 advertisement commercials.
In 2003, Karimov joined the creative team of Illusion Pictures. He has successfully completed over 100 projects in various positions of responsibility, including that of a line producer and executive producer.
In 2017, when Uzbekistan finally opened itself up to foreign collaborations, he undertook partnerships in four joint projects and private feature films to contribute as a line producer.
Ollwyn Dsouza

Since then he has been a Line Producer associated with numerous Indian features, commercials and documentaries. He is mostly known for his dedication and having the ability to troubleshoot issues at an alarming pace.
In 2019, Ollwyn joined hands with the creative team of Illusion Pictures, together, for their first Indian feature film “Khuda Haafiz”, shot in Uzbekistan where his technical & logistical knowledge, together with his vast experience provided the team with an exceptional advantage.
From then on, he has been associated with all projects of Illusion Pictures.
Every film has a beginning nobody sees.
During the first days of “Tamerlane” filming in Uzbekistan, our team became part of the journey, supporting the production with equipment and on-set work as everything was coming together.
Looking back at these moments feels special.
Because this is what filmmaking really is — people, pressure, improvisation and belief in the process. #tamerlanemovie #cinema #behindthescenes🎬
We rethought the conventional approach to portraying people with different abilities.
For us, the person and their story come first — individual characteristics become a natural part of the frame, not its defining meaning.
Inclusion is not a separate space, but everyday life: friendship, love, work, creativity, and simple human moments.
We were honored to take part in creating this important social project and, as a production team, we are always open to supporting meaningful charitable and social initiatives through visual storytelling.
Special thanks to SAN’ATCORE production for their trust in bringing this project to life.

Kinogap continues to grow — and today we have an important update that we’re excited to share
Our first film within the project «Fragments: Electronic music of Uzbekistan» was launched with help of @Illusion.Pictures
Illusion pictures provided us with equipment, professional technicians, and support throughout every step — from filming to post-production. They also offered us a space for meetings and creative discussions within our team. We’re happy to announce our collaboration, which opens new opportunities for talented creators to shoot their work on a professional level.
We’re excited to share some great news — the second meetup of our “Kinogap” project is happening very soon!
We’re grateful to everyone who helps Kinogap grow, and we hope this inspires even more creative people to bring their own films to life — both within the project and beyond.
Stay tuned for updates and make sure to join us at the second Gap!! It will take place at the Tashkent House-Museum of Photography, located at Istiqlol 4. We’ll announce the exact date later in our stories — there’s a lot of exciting stuff ahead!
During our second gathering, we’re planning to host a private screening of our documentary film for club members and for anyone interested in joining Kinogap. This is an important milestone for us as a non-profit organization, and it became possible thanks to the support of our friends at @illusion.pictures

🎥 We collaborated with the crew from a Japanese YouTube channel — a special shoot of Samarkand created as part of a promotional campaign for Canon.
🇯🇵 The goal was to introduce the Japanese audience to the city’s rich history, unique atmosphere, and the special magic you feel the moment you arrive.
📸 The entire project was filmed on Canon gear, showcasing how their cameras capture the true essence of Samarkand.
🌟 It was an amazing experience to be part of this cultural bridge and contribute to promoting our city on the international stage!
